Attachment Chains

A roller chain with the appropriate attachment plays an essential role when it comes to moving objects, transporting items or lifting and positioning different things. You could be in need of attachments for double pin chains, hollow pin chains or even for plated and coated chains. So what do these attachments actually do?

These attachment chains are parts that are fitted to a base chain in order to adapt it for a particular purpose as a conveying medium. They can either be incorporated to form an integral part of a link plate or they could be built into the chain; forming a replacement of the normal link. This is just one example of how an attachment chain could be fixed to the chain plate; other attachment chains can be fixed to the chain plates by projection or fillet welding, to either one or both sides of the chain.

It should be noted however that when it comes to these type of chains there are two main types, which are single pitch and double pitch attachment chains. Let me start by explaining a little bit more about single pitch attachment chains. Basically these are based on roller chains that feature attachments added to them in order to make them suitable for conveyor use. Single pitch attachment chains are ideal for short distances. They are best for conveying small light goods; this is due to a smaller chain pitch. With these single pitch attachment chains you are getting a smooth transfer and low noise. Also with these it should be noted that standard roller chain sprockets can be used in most cases.

Moving onto double pitch; this attachment chain is the most commonly used one. This fact can easily be seen through the actuality that it is utilised widely within automotive parts as well as electronic and precision machinery industries. With the double pitch attachment chain there is the same basic construction as with single pitch but it has twice the length, hence the name. This form of attachment chain also has the benefit of suffering less wear to components. The reason for this is due to the fact larger conveyor lengths are possible due to it being double pitch but it uses only half the components when compared to a single pitch.

In many cases roller chains are often adapted for conveying duties; this is done through the addition of attachments. Standard types of attachments include bent or straight ones on one or both sides of the roller chain in order to enhance usability. These attachments however are not just suited to roller chains; they are available for a wide selection, including; RS chain, conveyor chain, hollow pin chain and curved chain.

These chains are vital to a lot of industries and help to keep the construction industry moving. So if you are in the line of work that requires such a chain you are in luck as there are a number of stockists of such item and even if you can’t find what you are looking for, never fear as a lot of attachments can be made to order.
